Extremes on Trees
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper considers the asymptotic distribution of the longest edge of the minimal spanning tree and nearest neighbor graph on X1, . . . ,XNn where X1,X2, . . . are i.i.d. in R 2 with distribution F and Nn is independent of the Xi and satisfies Nn/n→p 1. A new approach based on spatial blocking and a locally orthogonal coordinate system is developed to treat cases for which F has unbounded support. The general results are applied to a number of special cases, including elliptically contoured distributions, distributions with independent Weibull-like margins and distributions with parallel level curves.

Soil surface temperatures reveal moderation of the urban heat island effect by trees and shrubs
Urban areas are major contributors to air pollution and climate change, causing impacts on human health that are amplified by the microclimatological effects of buildings and grey infrastructure through the urban heat island (UHI) effect. Urban greenspaces may be important in reducing surface temperature extremes, but their effects have not been investigated at a city-wide scale. Across a mid-s...
متن کاملThe Imprint of Extreme Climate Events in Century-Long Time Series of Wood Anatomical Traits in High-Elevation Conifers
Extreme climate events are of key importance for forest ecosystems. However, both the inherent infrequency, stochasticity and multiplicity of extreme climate events, and the array of biological responses, challenges investigations. To cope with the long life cycle of trees and the paucity of the extreme events themselves, our inferences should be based on long-term observations. In this context...
متن کاملOutbreaks of Yuzu Dieback in Goheung Area: Possible Causes Deduced from Weather Extremes
Starting in 2012, severe diebacks usually accompanied by abundant gum exudation have occurred on yuzu trees in Goheung-gun, Jeonnam Province, where severely affected trees were occasionally killed. On-farm surveys were conducted at 30 randomly-selected orchards located at Pungyang-myeon, Goheung-gun, and the resulting disease incidences were 18.5% and 39.6% for dieback and gumming symptoms, res...
متن کامل2 00 1 Globally and Locally Minimal Weight Spanning Tree Networks
The competition between local and global driving forces is significant in a wide variety of naturally occurring branched networks. We have investigated the impact of a global minimization criterion versus a local one on the structure of spanning trees. To do so, we consider two spanning tree structures-the generalized minimal spanning tree (GMST) defined by Dror et al. [1] and an analogous stru...

متن کاملمیانگین الگوهای گردشی توأم با بارشهای سنگین در شمال غرب ایران
Climatic extremes are the special status (high or low) of climatic elements. In spite of the unique definition, there are a lot of thresholds which have been illustrated for extremes. For example, Bonneted (2006) has defined the climatic extremes as intensive and abnormal events that include the lowest and highest values in a time series. Becker et al. (2007) have referred to the extremes of cl...
